Overview
JWS Coatings UK was appointed to carry out a full refurbishment of exterior metal window frames at a central London office building. The scope involved the masking, priming, and spraying of 4,872 windows across multiple elevations to meet architectural finish standards while minimising disruption in a busy urban setting.
Surface Preparation
All frames were degreased and abraded using mechanical methods to remove contaminants, oxidation, and prior coatings. Following preparation, masking was carried out to protect glazing, stonework, and adjacent finishes. Primer was applied to specification, ensuring bond strength with the topcoat system.
Application
A commercial-grade polyurethane topcoat was spray-applied using HVLP and airless systems depending on access. Works were phased by elevation, using mobile access platforms and coordinated with on-site management to allow concurrent trades to continue without delay. All coatings were applied in accordance with manufacturer specifications, achieving uniform coverage and colour match.
Result
4,872 window frames were successfully coated to specification with zero overspray incidents and no damage to surrounding façades. The final finish met the client’s requirements for durability, UV stability, and architectural appearance. Full handover documentation including method statements and COSHH records was supplied.
