Application of intumescent coatings to structural steel members within a large industrial unit. The specification included full passive fire protection for compliance with 60-minute and 90-minute fire rating requirements.

Undisclosed client – new-build industrial warehouse.

Works Delivered

• Substrate preparation to exposed steel (including spot priming where required)

• Full masking and containment across floor areas, base plates, and non-target surfaces

• Application of intumescent base coat using airless spray units

• Dry film thickness (DFT) testing at multiple intervals to meet project fire strategy

• Final protective topcoat to specification (white semi-gloss finish)

• Working at height from powered access platforms

• Carried out in phased zones to coordinate with ongoing site trades

• Compliance with manufacturer-specified environmental conditions (temperature and humidity monitoring)

• All works completed to third-party inspection standards

• Zero overspray outside containment areas

• Team CSCS, IPAF, and PASMA qualified

• RAMS issued and approved in advance of site start

Outcome
All intumescent coating works completed on time and signed off by client-side fire engineer. Coatings verified for compliance with EN13381 and BS476 Parts 20/21 standards. Structure certified to meet fire protection performance required for building control handover.
