Overview
JWS Coatings UK was contracted to upgrade the internal floor surface of a light industrial unit with an epoxy resin system. The objective was to deliver a durable, low-maintenance finish suitable for operational use, improving light reflectivity and chemical resistance while sealing the surface against dust and moisture ingress.
Surface Preparation
The existing concrete slab exhibited signs of wear, patching, and surface laitance. All areas were mechanically prepared via diamond grinding to achieve the required CSP (concrete surface profile) and to open the substrate for coating adhesion. Substrate was vacuum-cleaned to remove residual dust before application.
Application
A two-component high-build epoxy system was specified and applied in two coats. The first coat functioned as a primer and pore sealer. The second coat was tinted to the client’s specification and applied to achieve a smooth, gloss finish. Edges, wall returns, and thresholds were hand-finished for continuity. Drying times and recoat windows were observed in accordance with manufacturer technical data sheets.
Result
The new floor surface delivered a seamless, chemically resistant, and easy-to-clean finish suitable for industrial use. All work was completed within the client’s programme window with zero access issues and full compliance with site RAMS. Handover included material batch data and MSDS for all applied products.
