Overview
JWS Coatings UK was contracted to carry out an exterior coatings package on a multi-storey car park at Chelmsley Wood in the West Midlands. The brief required on-site respraying of exposed elevations to improve asset appearance, increase weather protection, and extend maintenance cycles.
Work was carried out during off-peak periods to minimise impact on public access.
Surface Preparation
All exposed concrete and metal surfaces were thoroughly prepared using mechanical abrasion and pressure washing. Substrates were checked for loose coatings and contamination. Any surface defects were repaired prior to coating application to maintain long-term adhesion performance.
Application
A specification-led spray-applied coating system was selected based on the exposure rating of the structure and existing substrate condition. High-performance masonry coatings and metal primers were used to provide UV, impact, and moisture resistance across the various surface types.
All application was carried out using airless spraying systems for consistent coverage on high-access vertical elevations. Full edge masking ensured no overspray affected public areas or adjacent shopfronts.
Result
The completed work has restored the structural appearance of the car park, reduced visual degradation, and provided protective coatings designed to reduce maintenance requirements for the next 10+ years. The colour scheme selected by the client reflects modern civic branding and enhances the public-facing exterior without structural alteration.
